The capacity is related to how many employee can be registered to the system and how big data-transaction can be handled by the system. Some automated time and attendance systems is designed for small companies with less than 50 employees with small transaction. In contrast, other systems is designed for large companies such as manufacturing, with thousands of employees and can handle huge transaction. Some well designed automated time and attendance systems work fine either for small or large number of employees.

TA-system usually has database engine server running in host computer. The speed performance depends on:

  • Database design
  • SQL script optimizing
  • The number of employee
  • Size of attendance-data (transaction) should be processed

The speed performance of automated time-attendance system can be shown when creating reports with big employee number and/or big transaction data.

The transaction data grows by time. For example: a company have 100 employees. On average, one employee enter the ID 5 times a day (in morning, afternoon, and other events). In one month, if we ignore holidays, the transaction will be about 100 x 5 x 30 = 15000 records. In one year will be about 180000 records. Because of this, to maintain speed performance, TA-system should has data archiving and recapitulation (summarization) mechanism.

Other consideration is the buffer memory of the time-attendance machine and reading method of computer. On some system, before read by host computer, transaction data is stored in buffer memory of the machine. For extreme example, in rural environment, transaction-data is download each week. Using the previous example, the data on the machine will be about 100 x 5 x 7 = 3500 records.
