Grundfos MixiMizer - The Automated Heating Water Temperature Control
Posted in IndustrialOn Friday, February 15, 2008
Recently, Grundfos Canada released it’s own patented technology; the Automated MixiMizer. This system comprises state-of-the-art HVAC technology that offers efficiency, comfort and reliability. The Automated MixiMizer represents a real breakthrough in the efficiency and effectiveness of radiant floor heating.
The new technology adjusts the supply water temperature by varying the speed of the pump to match the rate at which the outdoor temperature changes. Based on the changes in the outdoor temperature, the Outdoor Reset Control continuously “fine-tunes” the indoor heating water temperature. This is accomplished in a mixing loop within the heating system. As the need for heat increases, the MixiMizer Control speeds up the pump at a rate to match the heat loss of the office and warehouse spaces thus automatically injecting more hot water into the heating system, so that the desired indoor temperature is maintained. Conversely, as the need for heat decreases for that area, the MixiMizer Control slows down the pump thus injecting less hot water.
The Automated MixiMizer maintains indoor comfort as the outdoor temperature changes.

Features of the new Automated Heating Water Temperature Control:
- Corrosion resistant materials or coating on all internal water passages and external surfaces
- Built-in integrated pump housing
- 2 Water Temperature Sensors: one for system water temperatures, one for boiler return water temperature (both factory-installed on the pump control)
- Built-in check valve to prevent thermal siphoning
- Outdoor Temperature Sensor: for accurate outdoor readings through a wide temperature range
- Led Performance Panel: color LED readouts display power, call for heat, pump performance reduced and percentage of pump performance
- Selectable heating curve dial: used to select the precise heating curve for the building’s design parameters
Additional Features of Automated MixiMizer - Automated Heating Water Temperature Control:
-
Warm Weather Shutdown - for greater efficiency, disables the system when the outdoor temperature reaches 70F
- Pump Exercising - to ensure longevity and performance, the control exercises the pump for 10 seconds if pump has not run for 3 days
- External “Call for Heat” input - accepts external demand signal for heat, offering flexibility and simplicity of operation
- Post Purge - after a call for heat is removed, the pump will run for 20 seconds to purge the remaining heat from the system
